Health books shaped by real experience

Your story is more than a diagnosis.

MediSelf Press helps selected authors turn real health experience into clear, useful books, practical guides, memoirs, and fiction without giving up ownership of their story, ideas, voice, brand, transcripts, or future work.

This is not an idea-mining exercise. The Author Launch Package gives MediSelf Press limited permission to use shared materials and AI-generated call transcripts only to prepare a private concept package. No publishing rights, research rights, promotional rights, commercial rights, or derivative rights transfer unless a separate written agreement is created later.

Why MediSelf Press

Health books should honor the full human story, not just the medical condition.

MediSelf Press publishes health books, practical guides, memoirs, and fiction informed by real experience.

We work with authors who have something useful and human to say about illness, treatment, caregiving, recovery, self-management, and life outside the clinic. That may come from personal experience, clinical work, caregiving, advocacy, education, or years spent helping people through hard things.

Our job is to help shape that experience into a book without turning real people into case studies, slogans, or simple lessons.

The money question

The highest royalty percentage is not always the highest return.

A capable author can upload a manuscript alone. The harder question is whether the book can be turned into a commercial publishing asset: a book readers understand, trust, buy, register for, recommend, and return to.

100,000+ print and ebook copies sold by MediSelf Press titles, including $30 paperbacks and $9.95 ebooks.
01

Authority becomes assets

Author authority does not automatically become revenue. MediSelf Press helps package authority into a clear book, product offer, sales page, reader pathway, launch materials, and follow-on opportunities.

02

A book becomes a system

The first product can support ebooks, paperbacks, companion guides, reader registration, updates, workshops, bulk sales, speaking, courses, bundles, and future titles.

03

Demand becomes organized

Every unmanaged inquiry is either lost revenue or stolen author time. MediSelf Press handles the operational layer: bulk requests, POD options, pricing rules, fulfillment paths, support, and follow-up.

Primary offer

Author Launch Package

A selective, bounded first step for a potential author who wants to see whether there is a real book inside their work, story, or community. MediSelf Press plans to work with only four to six new authors per year, so the Author Launch Package is also a mutual fit check.

01

Find the voice

MediSelf Press listens for the author’s natural language, emotional center, hard-won experience, and the phrases that should not be polished away.

02

Shape the book

MediSelf Press turns raw possibility into a reader promise, title direction, back-cover concept, table of contents, and sample opening.

03

Clarify the path

MediSelf Press defines what could happen next without asking for a publishing commitment before the author can see the opportunity.

What the author receives

A concise concept package the author can keep.

The package is useful even if the author decides not to continue with MediSelf Press. It also helps both sides decide whether a larger publishing relationship is a fit.

Why a publisher still matters

A good health book is not just a manuscript.

Strong author candidates often arrive with confidence in their message. The hidden work is turning that message into a publishable health book: positioning, structure, voice protection, audience fit, rights, source material, editing, design, production, commerce, promotion, updates, launch, and reader trust.

MediSelf Press separates the process into clear author and publisher workstreams so the author can stay close to the human truth while the publisher carries the operating system around the book.

Author lane Voice, authority, human truth, review, approvals, community trust.
Publisher lane Concept architecture, editorial system, production, sales layer, promotion, launch, updates.
Shared lane Reader promise, ethics, research questions, final product decisions.

Two-week sprint

Simple enough to say yes. Serious enough to be useful.

Call 1

Voice, story, and audience

Identify the reader, the author’s natural authority, the questions people already bring to them, and the emotional lane that feels authentic.

Call 2

Book shape and research angle

Review possible book concepts, reader promises, chapter structures, and whether community stories could strengthen the project without overwhelming it.

Call 3

Final direction and decision point

Review the refined package, clarify the strongest direction, and outline next-step options without requiring a publishing commitment.

Promotion Pathway

Promotion starts before the manuscript is finished.

The Author Launch Package includes a first-pass view of how the book could find readers before, during, and after launch.

01

Build the audience while writing

Book development can create useful public signals: short essays, story prompts, title testing, theme reveals, reader questions, excerpt previews, and early-reader invitations.

02

Create a launch list, not just social noise

Posts should point somewhere durable: an email interest list, early reader group, pre-order list, community prompt, speaking opportunity, or direct-sales page.

03

Turn the book into a platform

A strong book can become talks, excerpts, quote cards, guest essays, podcasts, companion guides, workshops, newsletters, reader updates, and future editions.

Publisher audience asset

Relevant readers already exist.

For diabetes-related titles, MediSelf Press can evaluate appropriate outreach to prior buyers and readers of MediSelf Press titles. Any outreach should respect consent, unsubscribe rules, list hygiene, and the expectation that readers receive something useful rather than another generic sales message.

Publisher credibility

Experience across book, ebook, course, and community-centered health education.

MediSelf Press is being rebuilt from real publishing work, not a theory deck.

Publisher role

Kevin L. McMahon

Kevin brings a rare combination of health publishing shaped by real experience, diabetes education, digital product design, patient engagement, and real-world health-data systems. MediSelf Press titles have sold more than 100,000 print and ebook copies, including $30 paperbacks and $9.95 ebooks. That experience now informs a practical publishing model built around voice, production quality, reader conversion, pricing, promotion, bulk inquiries, digital infrastructure, and long-tail value.

What makes this different

A book does not have to be the end of the conversation.

When appropriate, MediSelf Press authors can use PatientStories.ai before, during, and after a book project to learn what readers and communities are actually living through.

Before the book

Invite a community to share stories so the author can hear recurring burdens, questions, workarounds, and unmet needs.

During writing

Use emerging themes to sharpen chapters, examples, reader language, and the questions the book should answer.

After publication

Continue listening for updates, companion guides, reader resources, future editions, and new books.

Author questions

Ask the hard questions before signing anything.

Prospective authors should understand rights, performance expectations, promotion, money, reader registration, and what happens if the publisher does not perform.

AI ethics

Author-led. AI-assisted. Human-edited.

MediSelf Press books are written by authors. AI and other digital tools — including spellcheck, grammar tools, transcription, research organization, and editing support — may be used to streamline the editing and production process.

These tools do not replace the author’s voice, judgment, real experience, or final approval. They are used to reduce friction, improve clarity, and help the author’s work reach readers in a polished form.

MediSelf Press will not use AI to impersonate an author, invent real experience, or turn private author materials into public content without author approval.

Trust first

No rights grab. No pressure.

The Author Launch Package is a private creative-development engagement. With permission, calls may use AI-generated transcripts or meeting notes for concept development only. No audio or video recording is required. The package does not grant MediSelf Press, PatientStories.ai, or Kevin McMahon ownership or usage rights in the author’s story, voice, name, likeness, brand, transcript, unpublished ideas, book concept, or future work. Any future publishing, research, commercial, promotional, or derivative use would require a separate written agreement.

Fact and story

Books can teach through fact or story.

MediSelf Press considers practical guides, memoir-informed work, and fiction when serious health experience is central to the reader’s understanding.

One example under development is The Kremlin Bar, a historical thriller set in 1968 Boston and London. The story shows a protagonist managing a serious health condition under pressure, in an era before modern tools and support made self-management more visible.

For MediSelf Press, the point is simple: a factual guide can teach what to do. A story can help readers feel what illness demands.

Who it is for

Authors with something useful and human to say.

MediSelf Press is especially interested in authors whose credibility comes from personal experience, caregiving, clinical work, education, advocacy, community building, storytelling, or hard-won practical wisdom.
